Ozzy Osbourne has had a tram named after him in his hometown, Birmingham.
Osbourne was in Birmingham to take the first Ozzy Osbourne tram in the city on its route from Corporation Square in the centre of Birmingham to the city’s newly expanded New Street station. See footage below.
The Black Sabbath frontman announced: “It’s a great honour to have a tram named after me,” as a large crowd chanted “Ozzy, Ozzy, Ozzy! Oi, oi, oi!” at the singer. He added: “I’m proud to be a Brummie and this means so much.”
The tram line opened in Birmingham in 1999, but operators Midland Metro have yet to make a profit. Having predicted that eight million people a year would use the service, so far it has averaged five million users.
Osbourne, whose hits include ‘Crazy Train’, recently announced that he had separated from his wife Sharon Osbourne after 33 years of marriage.
Sharon Osbourne is the daughter of ate Black Sabbath manager Don Arden. She managed bands including The Smashing Pumpkins and Motorhead before becoming a staple on reality TV shows as a judge on The X Factor and America’s Got Talent.
